STATEMENT
I have explored artistic expression in many forms since childhood. My main creative outlet has been writing music, but I have always been ideating and creating in one way or another, captivated by the breadth and depth of all that makes up life and is reflected by light. But I also felt there was some kind of paintbrush I would eventually pick up.
In March 2023, I found a free online sketchpad and quickly became immersed in a creative, therapeutic outlet of abstract expression. After several months of creating a wide variety of digital pieces, I moved into painting with acrylics. I’ve since found my greatest expression in combining acrylics with other mediums, creating abstract works of color that capture what I’m feeling in the moment.
All that I do in art stems from what I've experienced in life, as well as what I hope for. From my early teens, when I often felt less than everyone else, to when I turned 18 and had a profound spiritual awakening; from thoughtless rebellion and aimlessness, to a life of service, marriage, and fatherhood; from highly distressing moments and years, to sweet peace that passes all understanding. All these, and so much more, have colored my life with experience I would have never asked for and blessings too innumerable to count.
My art grows out of these experiences - the light and the dark, the confidence and the foolishness, the deep joys and deep difficulties.
I paint with acrylics, oil, ink, chalk, pencil, pen, charcoal, and whatever else feels like it belongs, layering washes and bold strokes to create a unique piece of color and substance. Sometimes the end result is soft and delicate, other times raw and harsh - but the completed piece is meant to present the colors of life, experience, and hope in a meaningful and impactful way.
Ultimately, I paint to give voice to my emotions and experiences - past, present, and future. I share my work in the hope that it evokes reflection, inspiration, or quiet assurance in others: that there is strength and beauty in each of life’s ebbs and flows.
